News & Events Archive 2004 PATRICK McCARTHY NOVEMBER SEMINAR UPDATE Thanks to all who attended the seminar. Hopefully you all found it very informative and interesting. We will be trying to arrange another weekend course around March/April 2005. Dates will be posted here as and when they are known. PATRICK McCARTHY NOVEMBER 2004 SEMINAR The seminar will be on Tuesday 9th November for a 3 hour evening session. This will be held at Watford Leisure Centre between 7.00 – 10.00pm and the cost will be £25 per person. To book your place please complete the form attached. Places are going fast. The seminar has now been opened up to outside JSK; so if you wish to attend please let me know ASAP to reserve a place. GASSHUKU 2004 SUMMARY This years Gasshuku was arranged for the weekend 10-11-12th September. It took place at Priestway Holiday Park, near Swanage on the Dorset coast. The weather was not a bad as expected, and we managed to train outside, all weekend, without getting wet. On Friday evening those who put their tents up in the wind and rain, probably regretted not reserving a caravan. Those of us who had, tried not to gloat too much. I believe everyone enjoyed the weekend. I’m sure I speak for everyone in thanking Sensei Perry for his inspirational training. I have also been asked to thank Colin Needham for his entertainment at Go Ape. JSK ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 After careful consideration it has been decided to cancel this years annual championship. It is predominately arranged as a children’s event, and there would not be sufficient numbers of children to make it a viable day. Many of the clubs find that children’s training reduces dramatically in the summer, and it is only now that they have returned. But it is too late to push for the championship only 2/3 weeks away. We are sorry, but we may try to re-arrange it for February next year. CONGRATULATIONS TO SENSEI BARRY SHEARER AND SENSEI MICK GORMAN!! It came as a surprise for Sensei Shearer and Sensei Gorman, as they were each awarded with 7th Dan grading by Sensei Perry at the instructors' lesson on Saturday 10th July. They were both speechless. I feel that if I had half their knowledge or ability when I reach their age I'll be happy.
Sensei Barry Shearer and Sensei Mick Gorman.
Congratulations to the following for passing their Dan grading: Steve Burke - Nidan (2nd Dan) Stewart Varsden - Yondan (4th Dan) GASSHUKU 2004 Sensei Michelle Perry has contributed the following information (from the newsletter) regarding this year's Gasshuku:
Very sad news All of Jinseikai is saddened to hear of the untimely death of 15 year old Mark Walters, a long time student of the Enfield dojo. On a personal note I enjoyed the opportunities I was given to teach him from time to time. According to his Mum he saw myself not just as a teacher but more as an older brother and always commented on how he enjoyed the lessons. A tragic loss for us all. Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy Seminar Sensei would like to thank all those who attended the Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy seminar. Hopefully you all found it very interesting and useful. We would like to make this an annual event but this is only possible if people make the effort to ensure that they book their places by the cut-off date, so well done to all of you who did. We have heard that the date has become free during his November tour. It will be Tuesday 9th November for a 3 hour evening session. Times and costs will be confirmed in due course. Important dates to note 10th October 2004 9.30am - JSK Championship 20th June 2004 12pm - Senior Dan Grading Gasshuku planned for the 2nd weekend in September, to be confirmed next month. The possibility of the Gasshuku's location being Dorset is currently under investigation. Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy Course Update 21/3/2004 The photo gallery section has been updated (and tidied up a little) with photos from the event last weekend. A report of the event has been written by Sensei Paul Shephard here and is worth a read. Thanks to all those involved in getting the weekend organised, particularly kyoshi Patrick McCarthy, Sensei Paul Perry, Sensei Michelle Perry for doing lots of work behind the scenes in ensuring everything ran smoothly, and thanks to Senseis John Kerridge and Andy Lewry for the photo contributions. Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy Course 13/14 March 2004 Directions: Saturday The Bill Everett Centre It is held at the Bill Everett Centre and is a bit difficult to get to. Andy Lewry has asked any who wish to follow him, meet him at 10:30am (Reminder: session starts at 11:15am on Saturday). He can be contacted on 07774 161 685. Please note that those who have been sent a ticket, the mobile number has been mistaken in the letter (i.e. should be triple seven and not double seven). I've hastily highlighted in blue the route that we should take to get there. Please note that the map is old (or rather that there have been road changes since the map was made, but the blue route I've indicated is just a guide for the route he will take people on should they want to follow him. Please also note, I have just confirmed this with him by phone that the centre is only accessible by the entrance to West Harts College, Opposite Leggatts Close) on the map and NOT the Youth Centre entrance which is the turning after it. Directions: Sunday (taken from the letter posted with the ticket) Greenwood Park LC Exit the M25 at Junction 21A. Head towards St. Albans on the
A405, opposite direction to Watford. If you are coming down the M1, continue as tough you were going to Garston, exit at Junction 6, stay on the A405 towards St Albans and follow the above directions. Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy Course 13/14 March 2004 We have been able to arrange a weekend seminar with Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy for the 13th & 14th March 2004. Sensei Patrick McCarthy has travelled extensively around the world and studied the origins of karate and is the author of ‘The Bubishi’ (The bible of Karate). The costs may seem quite high but for the level of training you will receive it is still very good value for money. The seminar will take place at The Bill Everett Centre, Watford on the Saturday, and at Greenwood Park, Chiswell Green, St Albans on the Sunday. This is the same venue as the annual course last year. If you trained on that course you will know it is not the largest of halls, so numbers will be limited. So to avoid disappointment, book early!! Diary Dates The dates have not been confirmed, but we are hoping to organise an annual course with a difference at Enfield with the aid of Young Tigers and David Kerridge, So watch this space for more information. 1) JSK Championship, 10th October 2004 9.30am 2) Senior Dan Grading 20th June 2004 12.00pm 3) Gasshuku hopefully for the 1st weekend in September, to be confirmed next month AGM & Instructor's Class The AGM has been arranged for Sunday 11th January 2004. There will be training between 12.00 – 1.45 pm and the AGM will start at 2.00pm. All instructors should try to attend as this is your chance for your club to have it’s say. The cost of the training is £10 per person.
