Trevor Ford (2nd Dan) founded Itsu Shotokan Karate Club in November 2003.
The word 'Itsu' has many meanings in Japanese. Once of the definitions is ‘peace’ which we have adopted. The idea being is that we are a friendly, peaceful club.
Sensei Ford began his training with Sensei Lawrence Elcock at CMK Karate in 1995. This was a very enriching and rewarding time for him. He also trained at various other dojos in the UK.
However, his experience in Germany was to become a major turning point in his development. Sensei Ford liked their far superior training methods and learning culture. He learned a great deal in his 16 months living, teaching and training in Bad Kreuznach. This prompted him to eventually form his own club. Sensei Ford tries to provide an environment where people can do their best work, i.e. relaxed and positive.
Sensei Ford has training for 11 years, mainly in Shotokan Karate. Although this is his main style, he has also trained in Gojo Ryu, Jujitsu, Wado Ryu and Kung Fu. Sensei’s approach is to always have an open mind. Also a Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga practitioner, he believes in complimentary disciplines enhance his martial arts.
